Tidy Up with Storage Chests

by guestpost on January 14, 2010

Storage chests are no longer those rugged wooden boxes that used to sit in the corners of rooms. Today, a storage chest can be something to show off, just like a treasure chest. A storage chest need not necessarily be made of wood. Aluminum ones are also available in the market. If teak is not available, you can buy a wooden storage chest with oak or pine veneer. It can be treated with a wide range of finishes that you can choose in keeping with your interior décor. It can also come unfinished if you prefer a natural and rugged look.

With time you may gather a number of articles, some useful and some for display. However these may clutter your room, giving it an untidy look. Storage chests are useful to store and protect such articles that are valuable but not particularly handy at the moment. You may also store bed linen, winter clothes and other items.

But if they carried any furniture with them, it was usually the cedar chest. The cedar chest was where all the family’s valuables were kept and once the homestead came up, it was the central storage area of the house. A cedar chest is also known as a “hope chest” because it was where young women used to store clothing and furnishing items in anticipation of their marriages and setting  up their own homes.
