An étagère adds style!

An étagère is actually a series of shelves meant for keeping decorative items on display. An étagère can be made of wood, wrought iron, aluminum, glass and wicker. They are placed along the wall or in a corner so that you can place your antique collection, books, lamps, plants and even your miniature wine bottles. If your living room is kind of vacant towards the walls, étagères can serve as ideal fillers that can blend with the rest of your décor, and enrich the motif of your room.  Étagères are very versatile, and can find application in every room. They can also be used for storage.

What Is An Etagere

The étagère has its origins in late 18th century France and is an intricately carved series of shelves meant for the display of small items and bric-a-brac. It is also known as a “what-not.” Usually made in a square or rectangular shape the étagère is perfect for placement in corners and can be used to place a table lamp on the top shelf. The traditional étagère design is very delicate looking and although modern manufacturing techniques mean that pieces made today are quite strong, the slim look of the furniture means that placing bulky items on it will make the overall effect look top heavy.
