Chest of Drawers

Set the Theme with Hall Chests

by guestpost on April 30, 2010

Although hall chests are used for storage, they are different from conventional storage chests. As the name suggests, they are for hallways. Unlike storage chests, they stand on four legs. The legs can be straight, curved or “s” shaped. They may or may not have movable lids. You can buy modern ones without lids and with flat tops that can be used for placing items of display. They have drawers for storage.
Hall chests can keep your hallway from looking barren and boring by sprucing it up. The beauty of a hall chest can be in the design of the drawers, pulls and knobs. Antique ones are inlaid with gold-plated highlights and etched metal accents that make them dazzle in your incandescent lighting.

Picking the Right Bombe Chest

by guestpost on April 6, 2010

A bombe chest is one that is curved and is typically French in origin.  What you use your chest for is entirely up to you, however, and can be everything from a night stand in your bedroom, to a small linen chest in the bathroom to storage in the kitchen.  The bombe chest may also be used for a dramatic focal point in the living room, drawing the attention to it as a statement piece.  The bombe chest that you choose should be well made, of course, but should also incorporate your favorite colors and patterns.  A classic chest with clean lines can be moved seamlessly from room to room as needed, allowing you to change your furniture scheme from time to time without having to continually buy new pieces.

It gives the first impression to your home and who you are. Be sure to protect your delicate wood top with a key dish or vase to catch those accessories one throws on them when coming home. Install a mirror over yours for that final verification before going out.
